Bashar Nuseibeh is Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Limerick and is the centre’s Chief Scientist. His research interests are in software requirements and design; security, privacy, and digital forensics; and the engineering of autonomous and adaptive systems. He leads the SPARE research group in Lero. He was Director of Research in Computing at The Open University (OU), where he continues serve as head of its software engineering and design research group. He was a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London, and is currently an Honorary Professor at University College London and a Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Informatics (NII), Tokyo, Japan.

Bashar is Editor in Chief of the ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems and Associte Editor of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine. He previously served as Editor in Chief of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and the Automated Software Engineering Journal. He chaired the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) and the IFIP Working Group 2.9 on Requirements Engineering.

Bashar received an ICSE Most Influential Paper Award, a Philip Leverhulme Prize, an Automated Software Engineering Fellowship, a Senior Research Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Royal Society-Wolfson Merit Award, and the IET Innovation Award fo Cyber Security. His research work crosses a number of discipline boundaries in computing, and has received best paper/artefact awards in software engineering, Logic Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, natural language processing, and security & privacy. He is the recipient of a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant on Adaptive Security and Privacy, and a follow-up ERC Proof of Concept grant. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology, the British Computer Society, the Irish Computer Society, and is a Member of Academia Europaea.
