Dr Gillian Murphy is a lecturer in cognitive psychology at the School of Applied Psychology in University College Cork. Her research interests are in the area of applied cognitionstudying how memory and attention work in everyday settings. She primarily employs quantitative experimental methods and her research has been funded by the Irish Research Council, the Health Research Board, the Irish Cancer Society, the Royal Irish Academy, Google, and Lero.

Gillian is a member of the People & Technology research group at UCC and currently supervises projects on memory distortion, fake news, deepfake technology, critical thinking, conspiracy theories, and the ethics of deception in research. She also has a keen interest in science communication and public engagement.
